Welcome to Sunderland College
On behalf of the Sunderland Board, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Sunderland College, a supportive academic environment appropriate for all students.
As Principal, may I say how proud I am of the developments of the College since its inception in 2007. Both the School and College are built on a framework of traditional values and nurtured by a programme of thinking skills.
Vision
My vision for Sunderland College is a state of the art/twenty first century learning environment with a traditional heart and soul that connects with and fosters a community spirit. Progressive and traditional are the cornerstones of my vision for Sunderland. My vision has six key aspects:
- Academic rigour with a quality assessment system.
- An atmosphere where students enjoy coming to school.
- A supportive environment for staff.
- High involvement in co-curricular activities.
- Service and personal development will be fostered at Sunderland.
- Provide an Education of Excellence.
College Structure
The College is separated into two, the “Lower College” consisting of Years 7 to 10 and the “Upper College” Years 11 to 13 with a seamless transition of learning due to the nature of our specialisation.
Staff
Our staff recognise that each academic year level has distinct development needs and teaching programmes reflect these requirements. Students are taught by highly qualified and successful teachers who are specialists in their curriculum field.
Co-curricular
Our core business is Teaching and Learning but we recognise that students must have a balanced, holistic experience while at Sunderland. Sports, culture, music and leadership opportunities are co-curricular activities that all our students are encouraged to participate in.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care is based around the form class. In Year 7 the form is in horizontal classes for this care; in the rest of the College, students are grouped in vertical classes with a mix of year groups to enhance this supportive environment.
I do look forward to meeting with you and assisting in planning out your child’s education here at Sunderland.
Warm regards,
Nathan Villars
College Principal
